Since arriving in Milan, I have been non-stop busy. Although we have
had down time, I have been utilizing that time by exploring the area, making
new friends, trying new restaurants, eating lots of carbs, visiting the Duomo, visiting designer shops
and shopping local. Even though I have only been in Milan 4 nights, I feel
settled in and very comfortable.
On Wednesday, my first full day, we took the Metro to Pink & Chic. We arrived at Pink
& Chic at 10am, but then realized our appointment was at 11am. We did not
waste this hour because after realizing we were early, we decided to go to the
Milan Public Gardens. This was our first full day in Milan, so it was nice
spending that hour in the Public Garden getting to know the other students I
have yet to meet. We also took this opportunity to take our first photo as a
group! At Pink & Chic, we met with
Maria and Eleanora and discussed public relations, fashion events and creating
opportunities for clients. Afterwards, we met with Bimbi Destefano from
Dotgirl. She spoke to us about the art of blogging, creating a unique image for
yourself and how fashion is not just in our clothing, but all around us.

The most memorable experience of the week was taking the Metro to the
Duomo as a group. We were given instructions from our professors about how to
get there and what time to arrive. Fortunately all 20 of us arrived safely as a
group and on time. Getting off of the Metro, walking up the stairs from the yellow
line and spotting the Duomo has been my best moment so far. I visited Milan two
years ago with my family and seeing the Duomo filled me with so many happy
memories and hopes for creating many new memories on this study abroad.
On Thursday, we had the opportunity to listen to Andrea Tisci from
Fashion Ancien talk about blogging. If I could think of one word to describe
this man, it is passion. You can tell how passionate he is about fashion, art
and blogging. He was incredibly helpful with how to make a blog successful and
how to give life and a mission to your blog. He has a very vibrant and unique
personality and has a sharp sense of paying attention to details.
After meeting with Andrea, I spent some time with my partners (Alexis,
Chelsea, and Micah) for our group project on Veneto Banca. After spending some time
with them, we enjoyed some free time together by getting dinner at a restaurant
close to the hotel. The food was delicious and is definitely living up the
hype. I had Risotto alla Milanese and it was the first of many risotto dishes.
Today, Friday, has been a long, but very fun day. We started the day off at Fashion Camp. The
theme of the day was “Fashion is a Circus” and featured an acrobat, holla hoops
hanging from the ceilings, popcorn and cotton candy machines. I enjoyed
visiting the booths of several local artists. Each was uniquely different and
varied from bijoux jewelry to customizable t-shirts to jewelry made out of
recycled tires. Visiting these artists and talking to them about their trade
was incredibly interesting and helpful for the future, as well as various
assignments I will have in Milan. We also were able to get free mascara from
Yves Saint Laurent. Thanks, YSL!
Later in the day we visited a distillery, Branca, for a tour. This was
a cultural visit and it was a good insight into the Italian culture. Not only
was it fun, but it was educational as well. After the distillery, we took the
metro to Leghila to pick up purses for us to use in Milan. I will post more
information on this project later in the week, as I have yet to use my new
purse! These purses are very unique and I can’t wait to start Instagraming
photos of them.
That’s all for now! I am off for my gelato of the day!
